Cheshire entrepreneurs win backing of a Dragon

A Cheshire couple, who were successful on a recent episode of BBC One’s Dragon’s Den, have seen an uplift in sales since the show was aired.

Phil and Helen Lord are the founders of Rehome, a marketplace for quality sourced used, second-hand and ex-display kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and appliances which they offer at a fraction of the cost to homeowners.

It helps homeowners to access interiors for less while enabling sellers to keep existing interiors in use rather than treating them as waste.

Their message is simple: pre-loved kitchens have real value, and most people are unaware of this.

Founded in 2015, the business employs 14 people and works with both homeowners and kitchen showrooms, supporting the resale of fitted kitchens and ex-display stock as part of a more circular approach to home renovation.

After pitching their business to the Dragons, the Widnes couple received and accepted an offer from Deborah Meaden, who has been a Dragon for over 20 years. She agreed to accept a 15% stake in the kitchen marketplace for £100k.

Since then they have secured a number of new partnerships which will allow them to expand their offering.

Helen said: “Appearing on Dragons’ Den was a huge moment for us. We went on the programme to bring the resale kitchen conversation to a much wider audience.

“When people are renovating, the old kitchen is often treated as waste when it may still hold real value. We want more homeowners to see resale as a practical option, both to help budgets go further and to keep quality interiors in use for longer.

“Thousands of beautiful kitchens are removed every year simply because homeowners want a new style, or showrooms want to update. These kitchens often still have decades of life left in them and we can offer them at amazing cost savings to homeowners.

“Rehome helps homeowners recover money from their existing kitchen, gives buyers access to high-quality, verified kitchens for a fraction of the cost, reduces unnecessary waste and removes the cost of skipping and makes kitchen renovation far more sustainable.

“Dragons’ Den felt like the perfect stage to show the public that rehoming a kitchen is both financially smart and environmentally responsible.

“Working with Deborah has been a really positive experience so far.

“She is a strong advocate for environmentally focused businesses that genuinely make a difference and avoid greenwashing, which aligns closely with our values.

“Since filming the show in June 2025, we’ve been spending time helping Deborah further familiarise herself with the business and our mission.

“The next step is some additional filming together to continue building awareness around the value of reuse and the impact it can have.”

Phil said: “Rehome is moving in a very positive direction. Our time in the Den gave us invaluable feedback, which we have taken seriously and used to refine key areas of the business, although putting those improvements in place naturally takes time.

“Since the show, we have seen a significant uplift in sales. What we offer is very much a considered purchase, so rather than expecting overnight spikes, we see this as the start of a steady and sustainable period of growth over the coming months.

“Alongside that, we have secured some exciting new partnerships with suppliers of ex-display and reduced-price stock, which will allow us to expand our offering further.

“We will soon be introducing new product ranges to the site, including zero-silica quartz worktops, premium bathroom cabinetry and sanitary wear, and new kitchen doors aimed at renovators who want to refresh their existing kitchen without the cost and waste of a full rip-out.”

So how did it feel to appear on the show?

“Standing in front of cameras is definitely not our natural habitat,” chuckled Helen.

“Phil doesn’t even like having his photo taken, and I get incredibly nervous speaking to a camera. But we knew this was a once-on-a-lifetime chance to bring Rehome and sustainable kitchens into the spotlight. So, we took a deep breath and did it.

“Once we received our filming date, we had just three weeks to prepare our Dragons’ Den pitch. The timing could have been better as our son was getting married in Italy the week before filming.

“So, there we were, standing in the garden of our accommodation in Italy, practising our pitch, while other guests wandered past. We must have looked completely mad!

“But between celebrations, speeches, and family time, we kept rehearsing before flying back to the UK early Monday morning. We had to be in the studio at 7am the next day. Our feet barely touched the ground. But the experience of appearing on the programme was extraordinary.”
